Google Calendar Gadgets Popping Up on Some Accounts

By random luck, or with a little Firefox tweak, Google Calendar users might find a few useful “Gadgets” on the right side of their calendar pages, offering coutdown timers, time zone tracking, and jump-to date finding.

It would seem to be either a sly alpha test or an unintentional unveiling, but certain Google Calendar users, both through Google Accounts and Google Apps verisons, are seeing the gadgets in their accounts, along with tags indicating the feature is for internal testing only. Helpful Google Blogoscoped users have suggested a style-removing tweak that’s easily accomplished in Firefox to try and bring the gadgets front and center, but they are still, at this point, an unofficial feature.

It seems like a fairly good place to place tasks and jump-to windows, but Google’s experimenting with a “Where Are My Friends?” geo-locator and meeting organizers in that space as well. If you’re seeing this little preview of things (likely) to come, tell us in the comments.
